Coil storage facility operators are challenged by how to make the best use of space while ensuring a safety-first mindset. Prudent operational efficiency must be practiced while managing costs. This paper provides a three-decade perspective describing operator experiences with various means of coil storage; from the rudimentary use of crude wooden blocks to state-of-the-art systems using highly engineered, facility specific designs.
