Overview

Heavy fabrication operations face persistent challenges when welding over mill scale—compromised weld quality, reduced travel speeds, and the need for more forgiving consumables. Historically, metal cored wire (MCW) has been the preferred solution to manage these conditions, but it introduces higher costs, increased system complexity, and elevated fume generation that impacts EH&S goals.

This session explores how advances in high-deposition GMAW processes—specifically HyperFill—are redefining what’s possible. Attendees will learn how manufacturers can successfully weld mill scale material without relying on MCW, while improving deposition rates, simplifying operations, and reducing fume. Real-world applications will demonstrate how HyperFill delivers productivity gains and consistent weld quality, offering a more efficient and scalable solution for today’s heavy fabrication environment.
